Another Twist on Technological Field Trips

Macfieldtrip

So here is another twist on fusing technology and field trips together.

The Apple Store now offers field trips to its stores around the nation. While registrations is closed for this spring session, just keep this idea in the back of your "classroom-ideas" brain folder. This is a great way to learn more about how you can take you classroom to the store to gain more knowledge in a fun hands-on way!

If your wondering why this field trip might be good for the classroom, hop over to ilearntechnology.com for some tips.

Video Podcast 001

My first attempt at making a fool of myself on video podcast for a laugh and a chance to show how to allow the field trip come to you instead you going to the field trip. "Pathways to Freedom" is an amazing tool to use to allow the kiddos to become fully engaged in learning about the Underground Railroad.

New Year's Resolution from a Newbie Educator

With 2010 coming about in a few hours, I wanted to write down some resolutions for some self-accountability later on in the year! Here are the three resolutions I am making towards my development as a teacher:

#1- Continue to read blogs and tweets on a DAILY basis: This is a skill that I am still developing, but I am so thankful to have been shown how simple and practical it can be to continue developing in technological skills.

#2- Gain confidence to use the resources in the classroom: Even though I don't have my own classroom, I hope by the end of 2010 (knock on wood) that I will be in a classroom and growing in confidence to use edtech daily. Hope to put smiles on my students' faces through technology!

#3- Share, share, share! I love it when veteran teachers share tips and tools with me, and I hope to do the same this year and other years to come.

I wish each of you a blessed 2010, filled with joy, growth, and memories! See you next year...

3D and Education: Will They Come Together?

3d

I have become interested in the recent surge of society's interest with 3D animations and have been curious as to how this trend will spill into the classroom. Such things as Avatar's new technology and the growing access of 3D television have been leading this new trend. Due to my curiosity I have been doing some research and came across this interview that has gotten my mind to start thinking more:http://thejournal.com/Articles/2009/09/03/Projection-Trends-3D-and-Education.aspx?Page=1

I especially loved Chris Chinnock honest answer of needing to educate educators about technology! Being a visual and kinesthetic learner myself, I can see the potential of bringing lessons into a whole new dimension of tangibility by using 3D technology in the classroom. Historical places, geography, science, and more can be revolutionized if we are able to create accessible 3D technology for teachers and students. Yes there is the cost of equipment, the unfamiliarity, etc, but this is simply a thought of mine and am putting it out there for you to gnaw on...

The Future of Magazines

Here, I found your Sports Illustrated magazine edition for December 2010- Enjoy!

Now imagine what magazines will look like for students. It will be like a hand-help, personalized blog that the students can explore and read. Just think of how much acquisition Visual learners could get from learning through these new kinds of magazines.
